Ranthambore National Park is located in district of southeastern Rajasthan in state of Rajasthan North India. The close town and railway station is at Sawai Madhopur; about 11 km left. This is one of largest and most poplar National Park in the country. Ranthambhor is around 180 kms from Jaipur by road; formerly this park was hunting land of Royal family and kings of Jaipur.
This National Park, in 19 55 this was recognized as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary by the government of India and in 1973 the park was affirmed as one of the Indian project tiger reserves Ranthambore entitled as a national park in 1980. The park is sprawled of 392 sq kms located between Vindhyanchal and Aravali mountain range. The terrain comprises of open bush land, dense tropical dry forest, and rocky terrain inters extend with streams, ponds and lakes. The park is load at the edge of a highland, and is closely to Banas River in the north and Chambal River in Southern side. There are several lakes are exiting in the park, and named for the notable Ranthambhore bastion, located inside the park. Ranthambhor National Park is famous for home of diurnal tigers; the park is for big tiger inhabitants, also the abode for various other species of mammals, reptiles and birds. The Park is having huge variety and numbers of animals, the namely: Tigers, Leopards, Sloth bears, Jackals, Jungle cats, Black bucks, Sambar deer, Chital, Striped Hyenas, Nilgai, Rufous tailed Hare, Coomon Yellow Bats, Macaques, Caracals, , Indian Wild Boar, Chinkara, Common mongoose, Small Indian Mongoose Common, Longeared Hedgehogs, Palm Civets or Toddy cat, Desert Cats, Five striped Palm Squirels, Indian False Vampires, Indian Flying Foxes, Indian Foxes, Indian Gerbilles, Indian Mole Rats, Indian Porcupines, Ratels, and Small Indian Civets many more.
The park, due to diverse terrain and plenty of water bodies, has a sizable population of birds, migrants and resident. In total, lists of 272 species have been documented. Some of the best locations to watch birds at, and from, are Malik Talao, the Ranthambore Fort, Rajbagh Talao, Padam Talao and in the Jhalra area. The most important birds in Ranthambore includes Goose, Woodpeckers, Dove, Crakes, , Falcons, Pelicans, Cuckoo-Shrikes, Mynas Terns, Bulbul, Indian Gray Hornbills, Graylag, Common Kingfishers, Wagtails, Bee Eaters, Orioles, Cuckoos, Parakeets, Asian Palm Swift, Owl, Nightjars, Pigeon, Snipes, Sandpipers, Gulls, Great Crested Grebe, Egrets, Herons, Darters, Cormorants, , Bitterns, Wood Shrikes, Flamingos, Ibis , Storks, Pittas, Shrikes, Treepies, Crows, Minivets, Drongos, Flycatchers, Ioras, Pipits, Bayas, Sparrows, Finches, , Munias, etc.
This park is the land of Reptiles: Snub Nosed Marsh Crocodiles, Shelled Turtles, North Indian Flap Shelled Turtles, Indian Cobras, Rat Snakes, Russel's, Banded Kraits, Indian Pythons, Vipers, Common Kraits Desert, Ganga Soft Tortoise, Indian Chamaeleon, Monitor Lizards and Saw-scaled Vipers, many more.
The park is enriched with a variety of flora which mainly belongs to the dry deciduous type.nearly 300 species. The majority of the tree cover is however mainly vegetation are: Magnifera Indica, Tamarindicus indica, Accasia nilotica, Phoenix sylvestris, Syzygium cumini,Accacia catechu, Ficus benghalensis, Zizyphus mauritania, Butea monosperma(in plenty, Anogeossis Pendula, Authocephalus cadamba, Prosopis speciger, Capparis decidua, Mohua Madhuca indica, Flacourtia indica, Azadirachta indica.
Due to the cruel summers and broad climatic conditions existing in the region, the flora and fauna of Ranthambore National Park have adapted themselves accordingly.
Note: The Park will remain closed from 01 July till 30 Sep, every year due to heavy Monsoon.
